Woodvale Methodist Church, Meeting with Rev. Heather Morris, President of the Irish Methodist Churches, Titanic Museum

The Team with President Rev. Dr. Heather Morris

Sunday: Today started with devotions by MaryAnn taken from the book The Rhythm of Life by David Adam. It ended with "risen Christ give us hope," which is always appropriate for us to ask for. We then walked to Woodvale Methodist Church. We walked through the gate to the Protestant side and down Woodman's Ave. which was once a flashpoint for troubles. Ten years ago, we would not have walked this way as we would not have been recognized as locals and would have attracted unwanted attention. We passed Woodvale Park which was the site of the mother's march for peace.

It was a very special day at the Woodvale Church. Not only were we there, and shared a song during the service, but the Unity Pilgrims, people who go to Mass at the Catholic Church and then to Protestant worship, were also there. The President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, Heather Morris brought the message. The  scripture she used was John 20, and in her message she prayed that we would all: allow ourselves to be found by the God who never forgets our name, know that we are sent, and be open to receiving the Holy Spirit. There was also a beautiful "mime" that presented the gospel as the end of the beginning and a new beginning. Altogether a beautiful service.

Lunch was at the church. It was wonderful to sit with members of the congregation and feel truly welcome. Heather Morris was especially friendly. We will be seeing her again tomorrow.

After lunch we went to the Titanic museum. It is a beautiful museum. The tour started with the story of Belfast 100 years ago. We rode through a display of the shipyard, and proceeded on to the excitement of the launch. The display of the fit-out of the ship was especially impressive with full size display of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class accommodations. It was surprising how quickly the ship sank. The pictures of it today sitting on the bottom of the ocean were surprisingly clear and impressive.

On then to dinner and a pleasant walk back to the hotel. We have really come together as a group. I will leave here with a whole group of new friends.
